Jim Corbett National Park is the India's first national park named after the hunter Jim Corbett, who played a key role in its making. The park came into existence in 1936 as Hailey National Park to protect the endangered Royal Bengal Tiger. Later it changed to Ramganga and finally Corbett National Park in the honor of legendary hunter, best known for hunting man-eating tigers and leopards. Situated in Nainital District of Uttarakhand Corbett has been a great destination for foreign travelers coming to India for a long time.
The park has been a stamping ground for tourists and wildlife lovers since its establishment. In the past few years the number of tourists coming here has increased dramatically. Though, tourism activities are allowed in a particular area of the Corbett Tiger Reserve so that you may get an opportunity to watch the varied wildlife and splendid landscape of the park. As per the official data every season more than a lakhs of visitors come to the park from India and other countries. It is a great place for adventure seekers and a wildlife adventure lover.
The four different zones have different timings depending upon the seasons. But usually the park opens at 5:30 in the morning and closes at 10:00. Again the tourists can go inside the park at 2:00 in the afternoon and it shuts at 6:00 in the evening. The morning is the best time when one can spot the big cats moving around in their natural habitat.The different zones have different entry gates.For Dhikala dhangari is the entry gate, Bijrani-Amananda, Jhirna- jhirna gate, Domunda- Durga devi gate.

Corbett Museum: Corbett Museum is the house where Jim Corbett used to live in winter. In the bungalow of Corbett visitors can take the glimpses of Jim Corbett's personal articles like Gun, Cap, Bag, Fishing Net, jeep, Sketches, Paintings, Manuscripts and the last hunting by him. The Museum is strategically located at Choti Haldwani near Kaladhungi, the museum remains open throughout the year.
Corbett WaterFalls: Corbett Fall is a beautiful waterfall located 25 Kilometer from Ramnagar district. Forest department has done with all amenities and facilities and it has developed as a picnic spot for tourists. Revive your body and mind in the serene ambiance of natural beauty. The waterfall is surrounded by teak wood forest that reflects a perfect blend of paradise on the earth.
Garjia Devi Temple: This temple is dedicated to goddess Parvati, worshipped as Garjia Devi - the daughter of the Himalayas. This temple is a popular pilgrimage site where devotees of both Garjia Devi and Baba Bhairon come to worship.
Safari Zones: Jim Corbett National Park has five different safari zones from where tourist can enter and can watch wildlife with the bare eye at proximity. These five zones are called the buffer area of the forest which is sprawled over 797.72 Square Kilometer within the park and is open to the tourists to explore. The different five zones are namely Dhikala, Jhirna, Bijrani, Sananadi and Durgadevi. Among them Jhirna, Bijrani and Snanadi zone come with the Jeep Safari while Dhikala zone offers canter safari.
The best time to visit Corbett is from November 15 to June 15. The park remains closed between June 16 and November 14, when monsoon reaches the Uttrakhand and floods the river bed and damages the road links.
Entry Formalities: All visitors to Corbett National Park have to obtain entry permits from the department of the forest at Ramnagar reception. The permits for the different safari zones can be also obtained from the park administration center located at Ramnagar itself. Initially, they issue 03 days duration permit on the spot without any delay, provided you have to produce photocopies of the identity cards along with passport size photos of the applicants. Foreign nationals have to produce their passport and photocopy of the same to get the permit.
